72nd World Health Assembly

72nd World Health Assembly

Monday, 20 May 2019 to Tuesday, 28 May 2019
The Seventy-second World Health Assembly will take place in Geneva, Switzerland from 20 to 28 May 2019.

The World Health Assembly (WHA) is the decision-making body of WHO and is attended by delegations from all WHO Member States. The WHA focuses on a specific health agenda prepared by the Executive Board and its main functions are to determine the policies of WHO, to appoint the Director-General, supervise financial policies, and review and approve the proposed programme budget. The WHA is held annually in Geneva, Switzerland.

Participating in the WHA allows us to advocate for our strategic priorities both reactively, as we respond to the official agenda of the Assembly with targeted statements, and proactively, by driving that agenda through productive meetings with Member States and interactive side events.

This year we will be calling on Member States to adopt the WHO's Director General’s Report A72/26 Patient Safety: Global action on patient safety that calls on states to put patient safety first in pursuit of Universal Health Coverage. We also look forward to the adoption of the draft resolution EB144.R12 Global action on patient safety recommended by the Executive Board on 31 January 2019.

During the week we will be co-hosting a side event on gene and cell therapy. Click here for further information.
