Dani Mothci CEO, International Alliance of Patients' Organizations

Dani Mothci is a social policy professional with a strong commitment to creating opportunities for people to feel empowered within their own communities. She has experience in community development, co-production, policy design and implementation, and project management. Dani joined IAPO in 2016 to work on the membership portfolio, converting members' needs, interests and ideas into joint efforts and actions at regional and global levels. She also led IAPO's international partnerships, one of the key pillars of IAPO’s work.

Before moving to the UK, Dani worked in NGOs and public institutions at both local and state levels in Rio de Janeiro to address local priorities of low-income groups by securing the collaboration of organisations from across the public, private and third sectors. Dani has an MSc in Social Policy and Development from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a Law degree from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil).

 

Amanda Bok, Chief Strategy Officer, The Synergist

Amanda is Chief Strategy Officer with The Synergist. She is a recognized thought leader in the health community, and a system thinker driven to achieve sustainable impact through collaboration, co-creative and collective action. Former CEO of the European Haemophilia Consortium (EHC), Amanda is a passionate patient advocate. She is a Fellow of the European Patients’ Academy for Therapeutic Innovation (EUPATI), former member of the European Commission Expert Group on Rare Diseases, former member of the European Patients’ Forum (EPF) Ethics Committee, and current Ambassador of the European Intuitive Trainers Network (EUNITA).

Her advocacy approach was deeply informed by her early career in international humanitarian diplomacy with EU institutions, the Red Cross movement, and the United Nations. It was also influenced by her experience with the World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH). Amanda holds a Master of Science (MSc) in Environment and Development from the London School of Economics and Political Science (UK) and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in International Relations and English from Austin College (USA). She has brief experience writing for print journalism and has co-authored several published academic papers. Amanda was born in Bolivia and grew up internationally; she lives in Brussels.

Dr Justin Koonin, Member of the Political Advisory Panel for the UHC Movement & President, ACON - Australia & Adjunct Associate Professor, Kirby Institute, University of New South Wales & Distinguished Fellow and Honorary Professorial Fellow, The George Institute for Global Health

Justin Koonin is a member of the Political Advisory Panel for the UHC Movement, and a former co-chair of UHC2030, the international multistakeholder partnership for universal health coverage. He is a member of multiple WHO expert panels, including for the Universal Health Preparedness Review, and on HIV, viral hepatitis and STIs. ​

He is Distinguished Fellow and Honorary Professorial Fellow at The George Institute for Global Health, Adjunct Associate Professor at the Kirby Institute, University of New South Wales, and an Advisory Governor of the Commonwealth Foundation. At a national level, Justin is President of ACON (formerly AIDS Council of New South Wales), Australia’s largest civil society organisation working on HIV prevention, care and support, and the health of sexuality and gender-diverse people more broadly.  ​

Justin Koonin’s work spans a diverse range of sectors. In addition to his efforts in health and human rights, he has worked as a postdoctoral researcher in mathematics at the University of Sydney, as a data scientist at PwC, and (currently) as a fund manager at Allan Gray. He holds a Ph.D. in Pure Mathematics from the University of Sydney, and is a Chartered Financial Analyst charter holder, as well as a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. 

Kira Koch, Technical Officer, Special Programme on Primary Health Care, World Health Organization

Kira Koch is a technical officer at WHO headquarters. She currently works in the Special Programme on Primary Health Care. As part of the governance team, she focuses on health system strengthening, performance assessments and participatory governance to support countries on their path towards universal health coverage. She is a co-editor of the WHO handbook on social participation for universal health coverage, which aims to provide practical guidance to policymakers on how to meaningfully engage with people, communities and civil society in health policy and decision-making processes.

Prior to that, she was part of the WHO Health System Governance and Financing Department and worked as a researcher with the University of Bayreuth where she also obtained her Master of Science Degree in Health Economics.

Dr Pamela Cipriano, Steering Committee Co-Chair, UHC2030

Dr. Pamela Cipriano, an internationally recognised nursing leader, is the 29thPresident of the International Council of Nurses (ICN) and a Professor at the University of Virginia’s School of Nursing and Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy in Charlottesville, VA. She previously served as Dean of the UVA School of Nursing, ICN’s First Vice President and two terms as the president of the American Nurses Association. During her over 40-year career, she has led efforts to advance the role and visibility of nurses and increase nursing’s impact and influence on policy. She has led interprofessional executive teams, boards of directors, committees, and global and national task forces, working with country level leaders to improve care, execute health policies, and advocate for improved access to care.

Prof Lara Bloom CEO & President, The Ehlers-Danlos Society

Lara Bloom is the President and CEO of The Ehlers-Danlos Society and responsible for globally raising awareness of rare, chronic, and invisible diseases, specializing in the Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS), hypermobility spectrum disorders (HSD), and related conditions. Lara leads coordinated medical collaboration, raising funds for research and focuses on global progression, education and awareness. 

Her passion is pushing boundaries and fighting for progression in Patient Engagement and Global Collaboration, and she was officially appointed an Academic Affiliate Professor of Practice in Patient Engagement and Global Collaboration at Penn State College of Medicine, USA, in March 2020, which commemorated ten years in the field of patient engagement and advocacy leadership. She is a published author in various renowned journals and speaks worldwide at conferences, policy meetings, corporate and fundraising events and academic lectures as an expert keynote speaker.

Dr Antoine Boivin Canada Research Chair in Partnership with Patients and Communities, Université de Montréal

Antoine Boivin, MD, PhD, is a practicing physician and co-director of the Canada Research Chair in Partnership with Patients and Communities. He dedicates his career to fostering relationships and connections through research, music and care.

Dr. Boivin’s practice is deeply rooted in partnership approaches. His research focuses on the integration of people with lived experience in community health teams. He provides care with patients who have faced significant life challenges, including Indigenous people, people experiencing homelessness and patients with complex health conditions. To support the translation of learnings into health system change, he co-founded the Center of Excellence for Partnership with Patients and the Public. He leads several local, national and international initiatives on health partnership science and practice.

Dr. Boivin's collaborative spirit have been acknowledged with the Donald I. Rice Award for vision and leadership. Through his multifaceted career, he remains committed to fostering dialogue across diverse perspectives, aiming to create a health ecosystem where we can learn and care with each other.

 

Prof Brian O'Mahony CEO, Irish Haemophilia Society

Brian O’Mahony is the Chief Executive of the Irish Haemophilia Society, former President of both the World Federation of Hemophilia and the European Haemophilia Consortium, author or co-author of more than 100 peer-reviewed scientific journal articles, a Fellow of the Academy of Clinical Science and Laboratory Medicine (Ireland) and a Fellow of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences (UK).

He has post graduate qualifications in Management and in Occupational Health and Safety and is currently an assistant adjunct Professor in Health Service Management in Trinity College, Dublin. Brian was born with severe Haemophilia B and is currently participating in a Gene Therapy clinical trial.

 

Dr Mark Barone Founder and General Manager, Intersectoral Forum of NCCs/NCDs in Brazil (ForumCCNTs)

Dr. Mark Barone, a researcher and advocate, who has been living with type 1 diabetes and celiac disease since he was 10. He holds a PhD in Human Physiology and two post-graduate diplomas in Diabetes Education and Communication. With over 25 years of experience in public and global health, he has collaborated with various organizations to develop programs that improve care access and empower individuals with Non-Communicable Conditions (NCCs).

In the early 2000s, he joined ADJ Diabetes Brasil, contributing to movements that led to comprehensive diabetes care in Brazil's public health system. In 2017, he co-founded the Intersectoral Forum of NCCs/NCDs in Brazil (ForumCCNTs), which now includes over 200 public, private and not-for-profit institutions partnering to improve health quality and reduce premature deaths due to NCCs (SDG 3.4).

He has also collaborated with the WHO’s GCM/NCD on its framework for the meaningful engagement of people with lived experience (PWLE / PLWNCD). From 2020 to 2022, he served as the Vice-President of the International Diabetes Federation (IDF). Currently, he is a member of several advisory and scientific committees of various institutions, including: IAPO, BMJ Patient Panel, FIND, RICPHI, NCD-Lab/GCM/WHO and LFAC.
