How effective was WHO's 'SAVE LIVES: Clean Your Hands' campaign?

Monday, 22 June 2015
In support of the 'SAVE LIVES: Clean Your Hands' campaign on 5 May and ten years of the 'WHO Clean Care is Safer Care' programme, the 2nd WHO Hand Hygiene Self-Assessment Framework Global Survey was launched on 1 June 2015 and will be open until 10 September 2015.

The Hand Hygiene Self-Assessment Framework provides a situation analysis of hand hygiene resources, promotion and practices within healthcare facilities. After completing the Framework, facilities can also use and adapt the WHO Template Action Plans to implement plans for local improvement based upon the Framework results.

Data submitted through a confidential online server will help WHO to demonstrate progress with hand hygiene improvement across the globe and ensure that action in support of patient and health worker safety stays high on everyone’s agenda. Data submission will be possible in English, French, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese.

How it works

Those already registered with SAVE LIVES: Clean Your Hands will automatically receive an invitation from info@whohandhygienesurvey.org to use the Framework and to submit answers online as part of this WHO global survey. For those not yet registered they can do so here or email WHO about participating.

Survey results

The first results of this survey will be disseminated on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the WHO Clean Care is Safer Care programme on 13 October 2015. The 2015 survey findings will be compared with those obtained by WHO in 2011 and allows for invaluable monitoring of progress and evolution of the global situation of hand hygiene in healthcare. You can find the results of the first survey undertaken in 2011 here.

If you have any enquiries, please contact WHO. More information is available here.
