Patient Solidarity Day (PSD) is a day when people from around the world stand together and raise awareness for patients.

The Global Patient Charter on Social Participation

Each December, patients and people with lived experience around the world unite to spotlight a key issue affecting our global patient organisation community. Now in its 14th year, Patient Solidarity Day inspires action through social media campaigns, local events, and global conversations - all aimed at putting patients at the heart of healthcare.

This year we will stand together to champion the importance of meaningful engagement of patients and people with lived experience in health governance, following the launch of IAPO’s Global Patient Charter on Social Participation.

A landmark initiative launched at IAPO’s 11th Global Patients Congress in Manila on 16 November 2025, this practical advocacy tool has been designed to help patient organisations in engaging governments and promoting locally rooted and context-sensitive social participation.

Developed over several months through the collective input of more than 35 IAPO members and an advisory group of over 20 health experts, including WHO representatives, the Charter offers concrete benchmarks for what meaningful social participation should look like.
