Patient Solidarity Day - highlights from 2016 and looking foward to 2017

Wednesday, 25 January 2017
Thank you to everyone who played a part in making Patient Solidarity Day such a strong celebration. 172 organizations from 44 countries came together to call for patient-centred universal health coverage to become a reality for all by 2030.

Through health screenings, conferences, lobbying health ministers, radio shows, community health dissemination sessions, social media campaigns and much more, patients and advocates from all five world regions shouted out the call for no-one to be left behind.

Read the highlights from Patient Solidarity Day 2016 in the report here.

Save the Date: Saturday 2 December 2017

To build on momentum from Patient Solidarity Day in December, we are starting to plan the next celebration. Patient Solidarity Day 2017 will be on Saturday 2 December. Please add the date to your work plans, calendars and website event listings.

What should the theme be for Patient Solidarity Day 2017?

In 2016 IAPO members were given a choice of four themes for Patient Solidarity Day and they voted on patient-centred UHC as their preferred topic. This year we are asking for everyone within IAPO’s network (both members and non-members) to send us suggested topics for the Patient Solidarity Day 2017 theme. Once we have collected the suggestions we will use them to create a series of themes that IAPO members will vote on in the Spring.

When thinking about possible themes, please remember that they need to be universal enough to unite patients and advocates from every corner of the world, working on any condition area. It is up to you whether you suggest a very specific and developed theme (and even a tag-line!), or whether your suggestion is a broad topic.

Below is a list of past themes:

  • 2013: Improve lives through patient-centred healthcare
  • 2014: One Voice. United. Universal (Universal Health Coverage)
  • 2015: Healthcare is a Human Right
  • 2016: Leave no-one behind: patient-centred universal healthcare for all

Please tell us what the 2017 Patient Solidarity Day theme should be by clicking here

Deadline for suggestions: Friday 10 March 2017.
