The UHC Compass is now live!

Wednesday, 11 December 2024

We are thrilled to announce that the UHC Compass is officially live! This innovative tool was launched today during IAPO’s webinar marking Universal Health Coverage Day 2024, making it publicly accessible for patient organisations worldwide.

What is the UHC Compass?

The UHC compass is an innovative tool created to empower and support patient organisations on the ground, in driving progress toward universal health coverage within their countries. It was developed in response to many requests from patient organisations seeking practical support to advance universal health coverage (UHC) in their communities.

As a resource suitable for all, regardless of level of experience or expertise, the compass provides knowledge on UHC, but also offering self-assessment resources and case studies for patient organisations to develop their capabilities in playing an active role in decision-making processes in health.

The Compass was co-created by the Global Patient Think Tank (GPTT), a group of patient representatives from across the globe convened by Roche. As a member of the GPTT, IAPO is proudly hosting the UHC Compass and will ensure it reaches the wider global patient organisation community and beyond.

Why is the UHC Compass Crucial for Patient Organisations?

Patient organisations are vital to advancing UHC. Their lived experiences and expertise provide unique insights that make them indispensable in shaping health policy decisions that directly impact patients' lives. With a proven track record of achieving remarkable outcomes for patients and societies worldwide, their involvement is essential for making UHC a reality.

To maximise their impact, patient organisations need actionable tools to amplify their voices, advocate effectively, and hold governments accountable. The UHC Compass meets this need by offering a clear, data-driven framework to help organisations monitor and influence health policies, ensuring patients remain at the centre of UHC efforts.
