The establishment of a WHO Global Diabetes Compact (GDC) presents an opportunity to institutionalize meaningful engagement of people living with diabetes (PLWD)  from the early stages of development of the initiative. With the intention of engaging PLWD as co-creators in the development and implementation of the GDC, as well as in its governance, the WHO NCD Department together with the WHO GCM/NCD Secretariat is seeking to consult people with lived experience of diabetes, healthcare professionals, United Nations and civil society actors working to strengthen meaningful engagement of PLWDs, on their contributions to the GDC.

This consultation will take place across three days, 09 – 11 March 2021 (13:00- 16:30 (CET)) and will build on a WHO Informal consultation with people living with NCDs (PLWNCDs) held by the GCM/NCD Secretariat in December. This collaborative meeting seeks to connect PLWD from around the world with the community of PLWNCDs convened in December and apply insights gained to date to the concrete involvement of PLWD in the Global Diabetes Compact. The consultation will include a mixture of presentations, discussions and breakout sessions that will be co-lead and facilitated by those with lived experience.
