World Kidney Day
Healthy Lifestyle for Healthy Kidneys
Obesity increases the risk of kidney related diseases. By 2025, obesity will affect 18% of men and over 21% of women worldwide, and that severe obesity will affect 6% of all men and 9% of all women around the world according to World Kidney Day organisation.
This year World Kidney on 9 March 2017, will focus on raising awareness around kidney-related diseases and the overall importance of our kidneys to our health. With the 2017 theme of ‘Kidney Disease and Obesity’ the event highlights preventative measures, in an attempt to reduce the frequency and impact of kidney disease and related health problems, on a global scale. If it is detected early enough, Chronic Kidney Disease is treatable.
Alongside educating the public, World Kidney Day is designed to teach and remind medical professionals of the important role they can play in detecting problems and aims to encourage more systematic screening of patients with diabetes.
To mark this day, join the Kidney Cancer Association’s 87,000 followers around the world for a 24-hour-long live Facebook chat. The global web chat, led by kidney cancer survivors, will provide members of the cancer community and their caregivers with an opportunity for discussion about surgery, therapeutic options, coping with emotional distress, treatment side effect management, and other topics related to living with renal malignancies. This activity may be accessed using the Facebook link found at www.KidneyCancer.org.
