Activity ideas for participating in PSD 2023

Participating in PSD 2023 under the theme ‘Expert patients - the indispensable voice’ offers an opportunity to engage in various activities that celebrate, empower, and raise awareness about the role of expert patients in healthcare. 

Here are some activity ideas:

Share with us your Definition of who an Expert Patient is:

PSD 2023 will be a moment to come together to collectively/ collaboratively define who an Expert Patient is. We, therefore, invite all health stakeholders from all over the world to share with us their definition of an expert patient and together we can establish a shared definition that can be universally adopted and applied moving forward.

Expert Patient Stories:

Share inspiring stories of expert patients who have overcome health challenges and become advocates. Host interactive storytelling sessions where expert patients engage with audiences. Use Q&A sessions to address common misconceptions and provide valuable information.

Feature these stories on social media, websites, or in local newspapers.

Share these stories with IAPO for promotion on our website and social media.

Webinars and Panel Discussions:

Organize webinars or panel discussions featuring expert patients, healthcare professionals, and policymakers. Discuss the importance of patient expertise in healthcare decision-making. 

Patient Workshops:

Conduct workshops on self-management skills, health literacy, and navigating the healthcare system. Equip patients with tools to become experts in managing their health.

Health Talks at Community Centres:

Collaborate with community centres to host health talks led by expert patients. Cover topics such as preventive care, managing chronic conditions, and advocating for one's health.

Patient Support Groups:

Facilitate support groups where expert patients can share their experiences, challenges, and successes. Encourage peer support and the exchange of valuable insights.

Social Media Campaigns: 

Run social media campaigns using hashtags related to expert patients. Encourage people to share their stories, insights, and tips on the benefits of the expert patient in health systems strengthening as well as call on their network to help us define who an expert patient is.
