Angela Rippon’s opening remarks at the launch of the World Alzheimer Report 2014 by IAPO member Alzheimer’s Disease International (ADI) set the tone for a detailed discussion on the implications and complexities of dementia around the world.The 2014 report ‘Dementia and Risk Reduction: An analysis of protective and modifiable factors’ calls for dementia to be integrated into both global and national public health programmes alongside other major non-communicable diseases.
The fear of dementia is one of the challenges of getting older for many people. It can have devastating consequences for those with the disease, their carers, families, friends and communities. The report launch emphasized the need for a whole community response to support those with dementia and tackle the stigma around it. The launch also highlighted the detailed research and investigation ADI has undertaken to assess the current and future state of dementia around the world.
