News Release: IAPO launches a virtual interactive WPSD 2020 map
In observance of the 2nd World Patient Safety Day (WPSD), IAPO is launching virtual interactive World Patient Safety Day 2020 map. This map aims to visualize global commitments and unite all stakeholders in their efforts to advocate for and contribute to better patient and health worker safety in these difficult times.
The map contains, among other, key information on WPSD, essential WHO WPSD campaign materials, as well as information about the ongoing consultation on the Global Patient Safety Action Plan 2020-2030.
We invite everyone celebrating the day to submit their events or share the map widely among your networks so that the patient safety voice can be echoed as far and as loud as possible. This map will also be a year-round reminder of the importance of patient safety.

What is World Patient Safety Day about?
Recognizing patient safety as a global health priority, all 194 WHO Member States at the 72nd World Health Assembly, in May 2019, endorsed the establishment of World Patient Safety Day (Resolution WHA72.6), to be marked annually on 17 September. The objectives of World Patient Safety Day are to increase public awareness and engagement, enhance global understanding, and spur global solidarity and action to promote patient safety.
The COVID-19 pandemic has unveiled the huge challenges and risks health workers are facing globally including health care associated infections, violence, stigma, psychological and emotional disturbances, illness and even death. Furthermore, working in stressful environments makes health workers more prone to errors which can lead to patient harm.
