Thank you for supporting our “African Meds Agency NOW” Campaign!

A huge thank you to everyone who joined and amplified the first wave of the “African Meds Agency NOW” campaign, which ran from 13 to 16 February 2025, during the African Union Summit. Together, we made a powerful call to African leaders to fully activate the African Medicines Agency (AMA) to ensure timely access to safe, effective, and quality medicines for all people in Africa.
We are delighted to report that the campaign’s first wave was a resounding success! In just 4 days, over 127,717 people engaged with our campaign on social media, although this is preliminary data. The campaign achieved a global reach with engagement from people in 35 countries. The highest engagement came from: Kenya, Ethiopia, South Africa, Egypt, Switzerland, UK, Uganda, Tunisia and Senegal. The campaign received great engagement from high-profile African and global leaders, key organisations, and a growing network of advocates who shared powerful messages in support of AMA and the campaign.
A key achievement from this first phase was getting the attention of critical stakeholders, including the African Union, AUDA-NEPAD, the African Medicines Regulatory Harmonization (AMRH) initiative, and various African National Regulatory Authorities. This positioned our campaign and the African Medicines Agency Treaty Alliance (AMATA) as a trusted advocacy partner that supports the AMA’s mission. You can see all these achievements and more in the impact report that will be available mid-May.
What’s Next? Become a Campaign Power Champion
We are now gearing up for the next phase of the campaign and invite you to become a “Power Champion” to help drive the campaign even further on the ground – mobilising action at the national level to get more countries on board with AMA. There are various activities that you will be able to take as a power champion, including: continuing the online mobilisation - using existing and additional resources, working with us to develop and promote a campaign petition, mobilising new supporters and building national campaign networks, work with us to understand the barriers to ratification, and engage directly with decision-makers in your country to sign, ratify, or deposit AMA instruments at the African Union, and so much more. If you're interested in being part of this next phase, please sign up here, and we will be in touch with further information. Together, let’s make the African Medicines Agency a reality now for everyone in Africa.
