Welcome to the latest Global Patients Congress newsletter from a cold IAPO office! Momentum around the event is building and the programme is shaping up to be the best ever.  

Choose your workshops

The big news this month is that we have opened bookings for workshops on the agenda. If you have already registered you will receive an email with instructions on how to book. All new registrants will be given the chance to book their workshops when registering.  

Speaker spotlight

We are delighted to announce Manica Balasegaram MD, Executive Director for the Access Campaign, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), as a new addition to the Keynote Speaker Panel.

Dr Balasegaram has worked extensively on issues around access to medicines, with a particular focus on tropical and neglected diseases. He has considerable training in both Public Health and Tropical Medicine from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, with significant work experience in both areas. He has substantial experience in clinical trials and drug development working as a site investigator, principal investigator and project manager.

Questions and themes at Congress

Many patients’ organizations use innovative patient involvement and advocacy techniques to boost their reach and impact. But we all know that making an impact and achieving sustainable Universal Health Coverage that improves our access to health is not easy in today’s complex global and national environments.

Congress will examine:

  • How do patients’ organizations innovate and improve their advocacy, campaigning capability, and mobilise their members to have a greater impact?
  • How are members collaborating with others to boost impact?
  • How are new ideas and inventions being assessed and adopted in delivering real benefit, and what innovation is underway?
  • Besides our members and NGO partners in health and other sectors, how are global agencies like the World Health Organization, industry and research organizations, regulators and national authorities using innovative approaches to improve sustainability?

Coming to Congress isn’t just about learning new ideas. It’s about meeting new people, building long lasting relationships and getting your organization the recognition it deserves. There is no better way to do this than to have a presence at Congress that goes beyond your delegate pass. How to register
